Gotta love the monkey!

In case you haven't seen this, it is the BBC tie in mascots for the Olympics in Beijing, created by the same guys who brought us the virtual band, Gorillaz.  Between this and the recent 2D opening for Kung Fu Panda brought to us from James Baxter & Co, the beautiful imagery of the East has truly seemed to capture the imagination of those of us from the West.  In a word.  Inspiration.

Here's a nice little post over on the Total Drama Action site.  The directors of the show, Mark Thornton and Todd Kauffman are good friends of mine and I'm having a blast boarding on this very funny show.  The show airs on Teletoon here in Canada and it's just been picked up by Cartoon Network and is finally being aired in the US.  Be sure to check it out if you haven't already!

3 Rings of Saturn

Last week, "Enchanted" won 3 Saturn Awards!  It grabbed 'Best Fantasy Film', 'Best Actress' for Amy Adams, and 'Best Music' for Alan Menken.  It's great to see how much people still appreciate this movie.

Busy, busy...

It's amazing how malleable a thing time is....seconds can drag on for what feel like hours, and days can zip by like seconds (my experience has been the latter as of late).   I've finished up one project (a film for Focus Features called "9"), managed to finally have lunch with my good friend Mike Smukavic (an amazing artist who never fails to inspire...), fell knee deep into my next project, trying to keep up with the whole 'spring cleaning' thing, recover from a recent nasal surgery (sinuses not rhinoplasty, much too the chagrin of my wife who hoped I might come out a little better looking...), and was a guest speaker for a local elementary school for their career/education week (I couldn't tell if the were riveted to my every word or bored stiff - I was assured they found it interesting).  Ah well, it keeps me out of trouble.  

It Came From Outer Space....

"Enchanted" has been nominated for a Hugo Award!  The Hugo Awards are given every year for the best science fiction or fantasy works and achievements of the previous year. The award is named after Hugo Gernsback, the founder of the pioneering science fiction magazine Amazing Stories.  I'd say that I'll keep my fingers crossed, but seeing as the award winners aren't announced until August 9th, I wouldn't get much work done.

Well, with the upcoming release of ENCHANTED on DVD March 18th, the Animated-Views website is starting to release the series of interviews conducted by Jeremie Noyer with many key people from the production of the film.  The first "chapter" is with writer Bill Kelly, a crazily talented writer and unbelievably funny guy!  Jeremie conducts some very insightful and intelligent conversations with everyone involved, so be sure to surf on over and give them a read!

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Jeremie Noyer, as part of a multi-interview compilation he is putting together on "Enchanted" for the Animated-Views website.  I'm honoured to be included along side interviews with Kevin Lima, James Baxter, Alan Menken, & Harald Sieperman.  You couldn't dream to be among better company than that!  Jeremie conducted an excellent interview, and I look forward to seeing the fruits of all his hard work.

It's amazing how many things you take for granted as automatic daily functions (no, not those functions...) are actually a pain to instill in your kids, such as brushing teeth.  These are a couple of images I drew up while playing around in Photoshop to hopefully inspire some co-operation from my little ones.

Critic's Choice Awards!

Yay!  "Enchanted" took home the award for Best Family Movie (Live action) at the Critic's Choice Awards.  Next stop, the Golden Globes!
